A bit about me and my donor story...

I’m Gail Pascoe, a Melbourne-based writer, and I have a daughter conceived using an American sperm donor.

My previous lives have included a secondary school physical education teacher in Melbourne and London, where I regularly faced teenagers - mostly taller and stronger than me - armed with cricket bats and hockey sticks. A little lost after returning home from three and a half years of travel through Europe, Central America and Asia, I moved into 'corporate world' where I worked for a dozen or more (increasingly yawn-producing) years as a trainer, and writer of training materials.

In my spare time I love to spend time with my daughter, especially in the kitchen where we bake many vegan delights together. I also spend a lot of time reading (am only choosing Australian women writers at the moment), power walking in the Dandenong Ranges with the wallabies, meditating (this keeps me sane), trying not to consume too much chocolate, and talking my daughter out of becoming a teacher (just kidding, teachers do an outstanding and phenomenal job - this I know!).

A bit about my blog...

My interest in starting this blog came about when I discovered my daughter has 100+ siblings around the globe (although it’s probably closer to 200 based on live birth reporting statistics, but the U.S. sperm bank refuses to tell me), a development I'm still coming to terms with!

We've met several of my daughter's Australian half-siblings (most live in Canada and the U.S.A.) and share a private Facebook page where a few dozen of us swap glossy photos and amusing stories about our little darlings. Since Covid, she's also started chatting with both her Australian and overseas siblings on Messenger Kids.

About 7 years ago I started researching all things 'donor conception' and discovered there are some great things happening out there, but also some fairly alarming stuff. In the interests of educating people about a safe and healthy way to make decisions about choosing a donor, and above all, protecting our children, I created the blog you’re reading now.

A bit about my book: 'Donor Conception'

In the meantime, I’m writing a non-fiction book with the working title, Donor Conception: a Step-by-Step Guide.

The book will be out in 2024.

Are you thinking about choosing a donor (or have started the process)?

I can help you understand the types of questions you need to ask yourself, your fertility clinic or sperm bank, your potential donor (and others), as well as the many, many pitfalls to avoid.

You're definitely in the right place!

I hope you enjoy my blog!
